FOSTER UPDATE 3/3/08
Wyatt has come so far with his fears, but now we have discovered
that he is afraid of male dogs. He will show some aggression if
they push him and get too close but his first choice is to avoid and
flight. We walked him with a very submissive male on Sunday
afternoon and he did OK but was obvious that he wasn't relaxed. He
loves the female Golden with whom he lives and when she joined us you
could see him relax. He loves people and is just the sweetest guy
ever. If you have only female canines and you want a very sweet
guy and are willing to be patient, this boy will be worth the effort.
It will be a long while before he can go out where lots of male dogs are
around. He is such a sweet boy and needs someone to show him love
and give him confidence.
FOSTER UPDATE 2/8/08
Wyatt is really improving. I think he must have put on 10
pounds since we first got him as he doesn't have that frail feeling
anymore. As his health improves he is also feeling so much better. He
is becoming better adjusted to the TV and will eventually be able to
ignore it. We had a wardrobe mirror out the other day and he was very
curious looking at himself and then behind the mirror. Also...this is
the most heart warming thing...when you get clothes out of the dryer, he
will lay his head on its side on top of them and turn it back and forth
soaking up the warmth. His other hobbies include collecting the
children's stuffed animals and clothing from around the house (He
doesn't hurt them, just rounds them up.) and trying to dry you off with
his tongue when you get out of the shower. He is still nervous on rainy
days and has only had an accident in the house recently when it was
storming. He likes to nap under the computer table where he seems to
feel safe. He loves, loves, loves to be petted. Someone is going to
have such a cuddle bug when they get Wyatt.
FOSTER UPDATE 1/21/08
Wyatt has been doing nicely after his second heartworm
treatment. He really is a calm dog and snoozes around the house in
favorite places. We put him in the crate when we are out and he really
doesn't like that. When he is done with the heartworm treatment I
probably won't crate him anymore because he really does pretty well in
the house. He doesn't chew on anything or tear anything up.
Everyone who visits just falls in love with him.
FOSTER UPDATE 1/12/08
Wyatt is slowly adjusting to life indoors. He sleeps with us in the
bedroom and prefers to be under the bed or in front of the fan only
sleeping on the dog bed periodically. When the alarm goes off he comes
to the edge of the bed to give you a good morning greeting but he
doesn't get on the bed. Sometimes I put him up on the bed with me and
he lays cuddled up next to me as long as I am petting him. He is slowly
adjusting to the TV. He will lay in the living room with us, usually
next to a chair that semi blocks the TV, but occasionally right out in
full view of it. He frequently is anxious about coming into the room,
but after there and petted for a bit seems to relax. He holds his tail
high and wags it in a full gentle sweep. He loves to get treat and is
finally starting to pick up a little weight. We are still working on
that. He learned how to lick peanut butter out of a kong this week and
he thought that was pretty cool.
FOSTER REPORT 1/3/08
Wyatt is very fearful of the TV?? We are working with him
on this. He is very sweet and is learning. Otherwise, he is
pretty calm and a big love. We've been stuffing him with food trying to
put weight on him and I am just now beginning to see a little
improvement. He rescues ALL the toys from the basket and takes them to
the upstairs hall. He doesn't defend them from the other dogs, just
moves them. He has really good hearing and seems to hear things long
before anyone else, such as the garbage truck and thunder. His dislikes
the garbage truck and is really proud of himself for getting them to
leave. He is afraid of thunder. We discovered this when he spend five
minutes trying to get behind the Christmas tree before we could even
here the thunder. After that I held him on the couch and he seemed
comforted. I think he'll be a lot better by the time all his
heart worm treatments are done. He really is a big love and you can't
help petting him and snuggling him up. His eyes always say how
wonderful it is.
Intake Report 12/13/07
Wyatt found himself in a local rural shelter and no one came to rescue
him. He is a young neutered male about 2 year old, with a red coat. He is
very skinny and is heavy HW pos. He is soooooo sweet natured, and very
friendly, a vet tech took him behind the counter at clinic to get some
paperwork and the two yorkies behind there went crazy but Wyatt just
sniffed at them with his tail wagging all the time. He knows how to sit
and can stand up on his back legs for ages which was so cute. He
travels like a dream not a sound just sits there looking around. I
think he will be a great family pet.
