MAGRR Hearts

More than 40 percent of the dogs that are rescued through MAGRR are Heartworm positive. Due to the warm and humid climate of the Memphis area, mosquitos are plentiful. Without preventative, dogs are almost certain to contract this deadly disease.

In the not-so-distant past, Heartworm disease was a life sentence. Today, there is a safe and effective treatment. However, the treatment for this deadly disease is very costly and takes approximately four weeks. While being treated, the dog has to remain calm and must be under constant supervision or in a crate. Our loving foster families take in these Heartworm positive dogs and ensure their full recovery.

Heartworm treatment is costly and MAGRR operates solely on fundraisers and kind donations to fund the healthcare of our dogs. If you would like to sponsor one of our Heartworm Positive dogs, please visit our Available Goldens page. Each Heartworm positive dog has been tagged with a candy heart like the one above. All donations - big and small - are welcome. Thank you!
