From Memphis To Maine
...With Love

FROM MEMPHIS TO MAINE , DOGS ARE ADOPTED AND DELIVERED VIA THE DOGGY BUS
by Lise Kirk

ME – When the beloved Golden Retrievers of Ted & Cyndy Bush of Harpswell, ME and Ginger Lawson & Larry Ely of Falmouth, ME passed away this past summer, both couples knew they wanted to rescue a Golden Retriever, but were having a hard time finding many to rescue in New England….so they turned to the South and to the Memphis Area Golden Retriever Rescue (MAGRR) for help.

In the rural South, dog overpopulation is a problem due in part to lack of spaying and neutering and letting pets roam free. High Kill shelters gas the strays within days of receiving them just to make room for more.

The Memphis Area Golden Retriever Rescue www.magrr.org works with these shelters all over West Tennessee, North Mississippi and Eastern Arkansas to rescue Golden Retrievers. They are looking to New Englanders for help in adopting.

On Saturday, October 14th, the Bush’s and the Lawson-Ely’s met their new golden companions at the Windham , NH Park and Ride commuter lot off I-93 when the dog transport pulled in with "Conway" and "Higgins". Over 20 other families from ME, NH and MA were there to meet their new family member from other rescue leagues.

The USDA Certified transport, P.E.T.S. LLC (Peterson’s Express Transport Service) at www.petsllc.net is owned by Kyle & Pam Peterson of Cookeville , Tennessee . Every week, they take reservations from up to 40 rescue leagues, including MAGRR, and transport an average of 100 dogs a weekend from Arkansas and Tennessee to their adopted families in New England in one of their two converted horse trailers. Kyle leaves every Thursday morning from Little Rock , AR and makes numerous stops in PA, NJ, NY, CT and NH along the way. Adopters of these southern dogs are told when and where to meet the transport to "retrieve" their Goldens and other dogs.
