A Special Gift
 

To Janelle, From Oliver
(as translated by his adoptive mom-- Kristy Caywood) 8/16/02

One day- not too long ago, I was lost and sick, scared and alone.
Everyone saw me as unlovable -- unworthy that day --
they either passed me by or shooed me away --
The only thing they saw was a dirty stray.
You looked at me and saw much more --
not a smelly dog on a concrete floor.
The sparkle in your eyes and the love in your voice,
lifted me spirits and I rejoiced --
You taught me how to trust again-- how to play --
you gave so much and you wanted me to stay --
but in spite of the pain of letting go --
you gave me your blessing to have a new home.
And that is the most "special gift" of all --
the gift to love and then let go --
a gift found only in the most special souls.
I've learned that angels are sent from God above
to give us hope and to share His love
Some angels have paws -- some angels have wings --
but you, Janelle, don't need these things --
For you've been blessed with the most "special gift" from above --
and that, of course, is God's unselfish love.
